Welcome to First Grade Seymour families!

This year your child will foster their love for learning! Students will build good reading habits and become fluent readers. We will explore a variety of genres to enhance a passion for reading, including non-fiction units, and being a word detective. Wait until you see the amount of growth your child makes during this academic year in writing! Students explore with the topics of narrative writing, opinion pieces, and informational. Children in first grade become become true mathematicians. Students will problem solve, develop and understand addition, subtraction, whole number relationships and place value. Our first grade scientists will investigate balance and motion, habitats, and life cycles. Our social studies curriculum includes teaching children how to be an asset to the community, our society, and to ourselves to promote lifelong friendships and work habit skills. We are looking forward to an amazing year together and hope your child is too!
